TIFFANI MARIE ORDONEZ
I'm excited about the Stain series because I usually never finish paintings. I try to finish the last 10%, but I tend to overwork the surface and change the image. Then I have to finish the last 10% of the new image, and the cycle continues. The canvas just gets heavier and heavier until it ends up in the closet or behind anything that will hide it. It's a satisfying change to finish a number of paintings quickly. Recently, I've approached the oil paint and its complimentary mediums as reactionary agents; once the medium hits the canvas, I like to let the materials interact or gravitate closer or farther from one another without much interference. Sometimes the process involves me directly taking away or redistributing the paint, but it is the inherent blending or repelling of the mediums that really interest me. Much of the work has reminded of gram stains, hence the title. I will add the sizes soon.---Tiffani, November 23, 2011.
